    Bidding over Christmas

As we head towards Christmas we wanted to update you on the next few bidding cycles on HomeChoice.

If you are bidding for properties, you’ll need to be aware of the changes over the next few weeks.

    Week commencing - 15 December 2025
Bidding opens –  Wednesday 17 December at 5pm
Bidding closes – Sunday 28 December at 11.59pm

    Week commencing - 22 December 2025
    As above

    Week commencing - 29 December 2025
    No bidding cycle

    Week commencing - 5 January 2026
Bidding cycle returns to normal from Wednesday 7th at 5pm

You can place up to three bids for properties you are eligible for each week. This is from Wednesdays at 5pm until midnight Sunday.

Placing bids earlier on during the bidding cycle does not give you a better chance of securing the property because the system is not based on a first come, first serve basis.

You can change your bids or withdraw them within a bidding cycle.

It is important you place bids on the properties you are genuinely interested in, as refusal of offers might lead to suspension of your account.

To make best use of homes, you will be restricted to certain types of accommodation depending on your household.

Here are some examples:

  • Some bungalows and flats will have a minimum age and priority will be given to applicants over 60.
  • Younger customers with assessed medical need with appropriate occupational therapist recommendations for an adapted property are exempt from any age criteria.
  • Adapted properties will be advertised with priority to applicants assessed by an occupational therapist as requiring the adaptations who are nominated on the council's accessible housing register.

If a property is age designated and the age limit has been lowered below 60, then priority will be given in the first instance to:

  • Applicants over 60 in priority band order

Below, you can find guidance on what you will be able to bid on, depending on the size of the household.

Properties marked with a *  may be subject to age and medical need.

Bedroom allocations for applicants with children are dependent on their age.
