We are proud to support Gas Safety Week 2025, running from 8–14 September.
Gas Safety Week aims to raise awareness of gas safety and the importance of taking care of your gas appliances. It is coordinated by Gas Safe Register, the official list of gas engineers who are legally allowed to work on gas.
The theme for 2025 is “Looking after your home, friends, and family” which emphasises that everyone has a role in gas safety. Here at St Leger Homes, we have a vital role as we are legally responsible for the safety of our tenants.
To help keep your home, loved ones, and community safe, it’s essential to know what to do in a gas emergency and to allow our engineers access to carry out annual gas safety checks. If you care for someone vulnerable, check out the Gas Safety Carers Factsheet for helpful advice.
Unsafe gas appliances, whether badly fitted or poorly serviced, can cause gas leaks, fires, explosions, and carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning. CO is a highly poisonous gas that can kill quickly and without warning, as you cannot smell it, see it, or taste it.
We check your carbon monoxide (CO) alarms annually and aim to replace them every 10 years. If you think your alarm isn’t working properly, please contact us right away.
Looking after your gas appliances means looking after your home and everyone in it. Every check—big or small—makes a difference.
Here are some simple checks you can do at home:
- Check your landlord gas safety record: We’re legally required to maintain your gas pipework, flues, and any appliances we’ve provided. We’ll contact you two weeks before your annual check. If the appointment isn’t convenient, call us on 01302 862862 to rearrange.
- Know the symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning: Headaches, dizziness, breathlessness, nausea, collapse, and loss of consciousness. If you suspect CO poisoning, get fresh air immediately and call emergency services. Learn more here by downloading the Gas Safety CO Factsheet here.
- Test your CO alarm: Press the test button regularly to ensure it’s working.
- Look out for warning signs on gas appliances: Lazy yellow/orange flames, black marks, pilot lights going out, excess condensation, or error messages. Contact us if you notice any of these.
If you would like to speak to the Gas Team, you can contact them by calling 01302 862862, or email: tenantrepairs@stlegerhomes.co.uk.
