Customers set to benefit from warmer, more energy-efficient homes following major roof improvement programme.

Almost 60 of our homes have been transformed as part of a major housing improvement programme designed to make homes warmer, safer and more energy efficient.

Delivered by Equans in partnership with City of Doncaster Council and St Leger Homes, the project formed part of a wider £5 million housing improvement contract and saw 59 properties including 27 bungalows and 32 houses, receive complete roof replacements between February and June 2026.

The investment is helping to improve living conditions for customers by reducing heat loss, increasing weather protection and enhancing the long-term condition of homes.

Each property underwent a full roof replacement, with existing roof tiles, felt and battens removed before new roofing systems were installed.

Helping customers stay warm and save energy

A key aim of the project was to make homes warmer and more comfortable for customers. Extra insulation was added in the roof spaces to help keep heat inside the home, reducing the amount of warmth that escapes through the roof. This means homes should stay warmer during colder weather and will cost less to heat.

Strengthening homes for the future

Alongside the roof replacements, additional work was carried out where needed to help keep homes safe, secure and in good condition for the future. Resident safety was also a priority throughout the programme, with measures put in place to protect customers and minimise disruption while work was underway. Equans' resident liaison officers worked closely with residents, providing regular updates and ensuring they were kept informed every step of the way.

Delivered quickly with lasting benefits

The programme was completed at pace, with most roof replacements taking around three days and some bungalows reroofed in as little as two days.

As well as improving energy efficiency, the new roofs provide enhanced weather resistance, stronger fire safety measures, improved security and reduced future maintenance requirements. The improvements have also helped give neighbourhoods a fresh, modern appearance.

 Customer feedback

One of our customers, Catherine McKeon, praised the work and the teams involved. She said: "All the staff were brilliant – good at communicating, clean and tidy and the work was done in just a few days. It feels and looks like a new bungalow. My home did feel a bit cold before and I think the new roof will make a big difference – especially in the winter."

The project is another example of ongoing investment in our properties, helping to ensure customers have access to high-quality, comfortable and energy-efficient homes across Doncaster.
