What is the World of Work Academy?
World of Work Academy is a new initiative to give people who live in our homes a helping hand to find a job, or if you are already working, we can assist you to find additional hours or a better paid job. It is a step-by-step programme which can help build up your skills with the support of friendly staff in our team.
If you are currently unemployed, you can gain work experience on the scheme without worrying about losing your benefits. Your payments will not be affected until you are sure you want to move into a paid position. If you do move to a paid role, the Job centre Plus staff will help you make the switch between benefits and a salary.
If you live in a St Leger Property and you have been made redundant by the Corona virus crisis, please consider joining the World of Work Scheme as we can assist you with preparing for a return to work.
The World of Work Academy includes: General Employment Assistance - If you join the scheme you will be helped with CV writing, Job searching and applications and interview practice. We will also send you regular emails in relation to jobs and training in your areas of interest, many of which you may not be aware of. These emails can be useful as in effect we will be assisting you with your job searching.
The service we provide is free and voluntary and as the programme is flexible and supported by the Job Centre, we will tailor assistance to match your needs and requirements. General employment help can be offered at any stage and meetings can be held in your local community.
Once you have registered with us, we will get in touch and start to look at the options available, some of which include;
‘Support and Learn' Jobs - These are PAID 6-month training contracts within St Leger Homes. As well as earning a wage you will be given lots of support to build up your skills. You will also have the opportunity to apply for a CSCS card, a valuable and useful addition that many employers now request for working in various roles.
Work Experience Placements - These are unpaid and will not affect your benefits. The time you spend working is flexible, between 16-30 hours a week. Placements last up to eight weeks and are a great way to try out different types of job and to help build your skills so you have more to offer an employer.
Apprenticeships – These are for one or more years and will give you the chance to learn new skills through supported, work-based training. You will be paid and you will gain an NVQ Level 2 or above.
The WOW Academy has helped many tenants into work with others improving their skills and chances of employment and now is a great time to join. Why not apply and see what we can do for you.
