What is the World of Work Academy?
World of Work Academy is a new initiative to give unemployed people who live in our homes a helping hand to find a job. It is a step-by-step programme which can help you try different jobs and build up your skills with the support of friendly staff in our team, or other teams who work with us.
You can gain work experience on the scheme without worrying about losing your benefits. Your payments will not be affected until you are sure you want to move into a paid position. If you do move to a paid role, the Jobcentre Plus staff will help you make the switch between benefits and a salary.
The World of Work Academy includes:
• Work Experience Placements - These are unpaid and will not affect your benefits. The time you spend working is flexible and is between 16-30 hours a week. Placements last up to eight weeks and are a great way to try out different types of job and to help build your skills so you have more to offer an employer.
• ‘Support and Learn' Jobs - These are PAID 6-month contracts. As well as earning a wage you will be given lots of support to build up your skills.
• Apprenticeships – These are for one or more years and will give you the chance to learn new skills through supported, work-based training. You will be paid and you will gain an NVQ Level 2 or above.
• General Employment Assistance - If you join the scheme you will be helped with CV writing, Job searching and applications and interview practice.
The service we provide is free and as the programme is flexible we will tailor assistance to match your needs and requirements.
Once you have registered with us, we will get in touch and start to look at the options available. Most people will attend a short college course and then decide on their next steps. General employment help can be offered at any stage and meetings can be held in your local community.
