For the past decade St Leger Homes has let Doncaster Council homes through Doncaster HomeChoice.
In that time we have relet 15,434 council homes and, have seen a number of changes, both to the homes available and the number of people applying for council properties.
Doncaster, like many other authorities continue to face challenges as a result of welfare reform changes and it is important that we are able to continue to help those in housing need. Today we are launching a consultation on Doncaster Council’s Housing Allocations Policy which will run until the end of December.
This consultation includes: a review of the size criteria; the introduction of a Homeless Prevention priority; amending the current ‘Gold move on from supported accommodation priority’ to a Resettlement Platinum priority; and, finally, the removal of the debt element from the Resettlement Platinum priority category.
We really want to hear peoples’ views on the proposals. You can take part in the consultation by visiting www.doncasterhomechoice.co.uk and completing the online survey.
Andrea Jarratt, Access and Allocations Service Manager for St Leger Homes, says:
“Over the last ten years, the HomeChoice Team have made a real difference to so many lives across Doncaster – and they continue to work hard to provide that excellent service that customers deserve.
“Our focus is helping customers make informed decisions about their housing choices and offering the support that they need. That might be helping them get a new home, at what can be a stressful time in their lives – or supporting them to sustain that tenancy with the added pressure of changes to Universal Credit and other benefits.
“It is important that the HomeChoice Policy reflects current issues and needs. Given the level of changes we are experiencing it is therefore vital that we review the policy to ensure we can provide right support at the right time to those in housing need. I would therefore please ask that people consider the proposed changes and respond to the consultation.”
