St Leger Homes of Doncaster

We are named Large Employer of The Year at South Yorkshire Apprenticeship Awards

We have been named Large Employer of the Year at the South Yorkshire Apprenticeship Awards, recognising the excellent apprenticeship scheme we offer to help people across Doncaster.

Our apprenticeship scheme helps support and enable people from across local communities to start or improve their careers and personal development – as well as make a positive difference in local communities.

The announcement was made at an awards evening on Thursday 23rd June at the Mercure Sheffield St Paul's Hotel & Spa.

We work closely with local schools and colleges promoting the benefits of apprenticeships and providing advice and guidance on the application and interview process, including mock interviews. This activity resulted in a record-breaking 481 applications in 2021 across 12 apprenticeship positions – and in 2022 a record number of 16 new apprentices will be recruited.

Dave Richmond, Chief Executive of St Leger Homes, said:

“We are delighted that our apprenticeship scheme has been recognised for its excellence and the important role it plays not only for people taking part in the scheme, and our wider business, but also the positive difference it makes within our local communities across Doncaster.

“Around 97% of our trades apprentices currently secure a permanent position with St Leger Homes at the end of their apprenticeship – we offer great opportunities across both trades and office roles and are proud to be growing the numbers of apprenticeships we can offer each year.

“Our apprentices work closely with a mentor and dedicated career start co-ordinator for their day-to-day learning, ensuring they are developing well with both their studies and their personal career development – it’s a real team effort. We want to say a big thank you to our apprentices and everyone else who has made this award possible.”

Dave Wilkinson, Chair of the St Leger Homes Board, said:

“I am immensely proud that the work St Leger Homes have done over recent years in developing the apprenticeship programme – and that this has been recognised at a regional level. All credit to staff at all levels throughout the business for their hard work and dedication in helping develop our apprentices. Our apprenticeship scheme offers amazing opportunities for Doncaster people and this award recognises that. Congratulations to the staff and most importantly the apprentices themselves!”

Cllr Glyn Jones, Deputy Mayor and Cabinet Member for Housing and Business, said:

“It’s great news for Doncaster that St Leger Homes have been recognised for the work of their apprenticeship scheme locally. This award-winning scheme helps local people into employment, developing the skills they need to advance their careers, while benefiting local communities and improving Doncaster’s local economy at the same time. Well done to everyone involved.”
