Get fit this Stoptober
People who want to quit smoking are being urged to get extra support by taking part in the annual Stoptober mass quitting challenge from Public Health England.
It starts on Saturday 1 October and sees people sign up to the 28-day challenge of an October without cigarettes.
People who want to give their health an extra boost – or take their mind off the cigarettes – can also try the Doncaster Walking for Health Scheme. It features regular weekly short walks, designed with health in mind. There are walks to suit all abilities and all walks are free of charge. For more information visit www.doncaster.gov.uk/walking .
Dr Rupert Suckling, Doncaster Council Director of Public Health, said: "We know the idea of giving up smoking can be daunting, but Stoptober is a great time to take the first step to stopping for good.
“Stopping smoking is the best thing a smoker can do to improve their health and evidence shows that if a smoker can go 28 days without a cigarette, they are five times more likely to stay permanently smoke-free. Why not make this Stoptober the time you quit – for good.”
