Housing Management - Making A Difference

Managing to Make A Difference - NFA Report.jpg

St Leger Homes are proud to have received praise from the National Federation of ALMOs (NFA) for our innovative approach to housing management, putting tenants’ needs at the heart of our work, in a report published today.

The NFA report, entitled ‘Managing To Make A Difference: Housing Management In The ALMO Sector’, features a case study of how we have completely changed the way we deliver housing management to a model focused on working with tenants to help sustain their tenancies.

This ‘Support to Sustain’ approach resulted in:

• No overall increase in rent arrears in 2018-2019 despite the rollout of Universal Credit

• A 25% reduction in evictions

• A financial gain to customers of £308,035 in 2018-2019 for those in the intensive support category

• A rent arrears reduction of £57,018 for intensive support cases

• 92% of tenancies being sustained past six months – and 80% of tenants engaging with support.

Paul Tanney, Chief Executive of St Leger Homes, said:

“It’s great news that the NFA have chosen to use our approach to housing management and supporting tenants as an example of what can be achieved. We are delighted that the success of our Support to Sustain approach, and our innovative Tenancy Sustainability Team, will help others across the housing sector nationally looking for different ways forward as they go through challenging times caused by factors such as Universal Credit and an increase in vulnerable tenants seeking help.

“We always put our tenants at the heart of everything we do and we’d encourage any tenants who are struggling, or need extra support, to contact our Tenancy Sustainability Team on 01302 862050 or by email via our website.”
