As part of the tenant training programme, St Leger Homes would like to offer sign posting to companies who are able to offer a variety of training.

English as a Second Language 

Doncaster English Language School 

The school take into account individual abilities and learning styles, and uses a range of innovative teaching methods and learning activities to ensure students have the opportunity to learn English in an interesting, social, and active learning environment. The courses are at any level, any age and any nationality.

Doncaster Conversation Club

Doncaster Conversation Club has a weekly drop in for asylum seekers and refugees, providing ESOL (English as a Second or Other Language) classes, support and advice.  

At the club they help people learn and practice English in a relaxed atmosphere, get health and asylum advice, learn about life in the UK, our culture and tradition, make friends and they also take part in activities including crafts, football and health walks

The drop in sessions are every Thursday 12 - 4 at the Quaker Meeting House, Oxford Place off St James Street. DN1 3SL. It is free and refreshments are provided.  

Doncaster  Minster now provide ESOL classes are also available at Doncaster Minster in St Georges House on a Wednesday afternoon starting at 1.15. 

POA Learning 

Offer a range of courses and learning opportunities to fit with the interests and needs of the community, and most of the courses are free. 

The Courses Available are: 

  • Functional Skills English and Maths
  • ICT – European driving licence and beginners 
  • Time for Me
  • Food Hygiene
  • Free internet / job searches
  • Parenting
  • Infant Massage
  • First Aid

Doncaster College

Offer a range of courses for people wish to return to work, these include cleaning and support services, customer service, driving goods vehicles, hospitality, IT, adult social care, retail, security and door supervision and warehousing and distribution. There are some short courses that give you skills local employers want, applicants must be:

You need to be 19+ years old  

You don't have to live in the Doncaster Area

Northern College

Northern College is an adult, residential college providing opportunities for people aged 19 and over.  They specialise in bringing people back into education, building confidence to proceed and the study and like skills necessary to get the best out of learning.

The course is residential, students would be staying at the college with accommodation, breakfasts and evening meals during the course included in the cost.  Most short courses last 2 nights although some courses may go on longer.  All students have access to the Library and Learning Support Centre where there is access to computers, books, DVDs, newspapers and other resources. The college has a campus wide Wi-Fi network.  The college is set in beautiful gardens and has a multi-faith prayer room. There may also be organised activities that take place in the evenings as part of the course, there is even a bar on campus which all students have access to.  All the activities outside the course are designed to encourage socialisation and help build confidence.    

The college also has a limited number of childcare places for children aged over 6 months and under 12 years, the details of this would need to be added to the application form when SLHD is supporting/signposting tenants who wish to apply.

Trafford Hall

Trafford Hall offer courses on community futures training which looks at growing food, setting up a social enterprise and fundraising and they also offer the Youth Futures work readiness programme aimed to assist young people to make plans and set goals for the future and to become life-ready as well as work-ready.

AFCL offer a variety of community learning courses with access to learning opportunities, the courses they offer are:
