Around 60 people will have a serious accident in the kitchen each day 

Keep children and pets out of the cooking area – almost 1/3rd of all reported burns and scalds happen to children under the age of 5. 

TOP TIPS

  • Always have a well stocked first aid kit to hand and check regularly to ensure the contents are not out of date
  • Ensure any spills are mopped up immediately, particularly with vinyl or tile flooring 
  • Plan storage areas carefully so that heavy items are not kept on high shelves and items in daily use are within easy reach
  • Take extra care when transferring hot liquids from one vessel to another
  • Keep knives in good condition and out of children’s reach.  Blunt knives are also dangerous
