Assessing Your Home
Before any work can be carried out to your home, a
surveyor will assess your home. We will only carry out work
necessary to bring your home up to the Decent Homes Standard or
Doncaster Decency Standard.
- Surveyors will call approximately one year in advance of the
work being carried out, with the survey taking approximately 45
minutes
- You will have the opportunity to discuss with the surveyor the
result of survey and appeal if you disagree with the surveyor's
decision click here to download
appeal leaflet
- If appropriate, you will be asked if you have a preference of
window style or any special requirements that may have to be taken
into account
What will happen if my home needs
improving?
- Before work starts, there will be a launch event at a local
venue giving you the opportunity to ask questions and meet members
of our team
- Roughly two to three months before work starts, for those
having internal work carried out, there will be a choice event
giving you the opportunity to choose from a range of items such as
kitchen units, wall and floor tiles.
- If you can't get to a choice event, we will visit you in your
home
- Three weeks before work starts, we will write to you to let you
know the week in which the work will start in your home
- One week before work starts we will hold a health and safety
meeting with you at your home, when you will have the opportunity
to raise any concerns and we will agree what preparations you need
to make. We will also issue you with a schedule when works
will be started.
What will happen during the work?
- We will visit you regularly to ensure all is well
- We will tell you what works are planned for your home each
week
- Work should take no longer than five weeks. We will try to
complete work as agreed and let you know if there is a delay
- Ensure that your home and personal belongings are treated with
respect and care and ensure that essential services (Water,
Electricity and Heating) are back on at the end of each day
What will happen at the end of the work?
- We will visit you to ensure you are happy with the work and
hand you over a customer satisfaction questionnaire for you to fill
in and return in a pre-paid envelope.
- We will assess your home and decide if any re-decoration is
necessary. Subject to the assessment, you may receive decoration
vouchers of, £25 per habitable room disturbed up to a maximum of
£250 (Excluding
Kitchen).
- Once the whole scheme in your area has been completed, we will
hold an evaluation meeting where you will have the opportunity to
give feedback on the Decent Homes process and make suggestions on
how we can improve our service. A random selection (taken from the
returned Customer Satisfaction Questionnaires) of customers will be
invited to attend the meeting to express their views and ideas to
us.
May I refuse to have work carried out?
You may refuse packages of
work carried out to your property but you cannot
refuse elements within these packages, for example refusing one
element of work will result in no work being undertaken within that
package.
However, we must carry out any work required for safety
reasons.
