In 2000 the
Government made a commitment to improve the quality of public
housing to a decent standard. They introduced the Decent Homes
Standard as a minimum standard that council homes had to meet. St.
Leger Homes is going above this set standard by introducing the
Doncaster Decency Standard.
The Government has set the Decent Homes Standard as a minimum
standard for all public housing.
Homes must:
- Be in a good state of repair, particularly the roof and
walls
- Have a kitchen not more than 20 years old, which provides
adequate storage and layout
- Have a bathroom not more than 30 years old
- Be free from damp
- Have effective insulation and heating
Doncaster Decency Standard
The Doncaster Decency Standard has been developed to raise
all council homes above the Government's minimum standard by
2015.
Homes must:
- Have double-glazed windows
- Have secure external doors and windows
- Have a minimum number of electrical sockets in the house and
outbuildings
- Have a smoke detector
