Around 95,000 accidents happen in the garden or just
outside the home each year
Be aware that some plants and berries are
poisonous or can cause an allergic reaction. Use gloves when
gardening – some common garden insects, or even just the foliage
they have been in contact with, can also cause an allergic reaction
(caterpillars for example).
TOP TIPS
- Wear appropriate shoes when mowing the lawn and keep feet and
hands well away from the mower blades
- When using an electric hedge trimmer, make sure you keep the
cable behind you so that you don’t accidentally cut in to it
- Turn off and disconnect all electrical appliances before
working on them
- Ensure that all equipment, paint and chemicals are kept safely
out of the reach of children
- Keep all products in their original containers
- Keep barbecues well away from trees, buildings and fences, and
NEVER pour petrol on a barbeque
Fruit and vegetables grown in the garden
should always be washed thoroughly before eating, even if you have
not used pesticides on them.
