St. Leger Homes of Doncaster
has carried out Equality Impact Assessments on its services,
policies & procedures, as part of the work on the Equality
Standard for Local Government. This includes existing
policies, new policies or those which are being changed, using the
Equality Standard as the standard format for meeting our
duties under the Race Relations (Amendment) Act 2000 which
established a legal duty to carry out Equality Impact
Assessments.
What are Equality Impact
Assessments?
They are a mechanism for identifying whether
or not a policy, service or procedure is likely to have an adverse
impact on any particular group of people, particularly in terms of
race, disability and gender. The assessments are
designed to identify any adverse impact whether it be intended or
unintended and to redress any issues. They also aim to
identify any positive impacts of the policy, in particular how it
creates an opportunity to promote community cohesion and good race
relations.
The results of the Equality Impact Assessments
are publicised in the form of ‘Equality Action Plans’ which
aim to create improvements in service delivery. They also
enable an organisation to highlight the need to consult further
with communities of interest.
