St. Leger quality surveyors in actionBefore any work can be carried out to your home, a surveyor will assess your home. We will only carry out work necessary to bring your home up to the Decent Homes Standard or Doncaster Decency Standard.

  • Your home will be surveyed in advance of the work being carried out.  Our construction partner will write to you to arrange to carry out the survey.

  • You will have the opportunity to discuss with St. Leger Homes the result of the survey and appeal if you disagree with the surveyor's decision.  Click here to view the "Your Right To Appeal" factsheet.

What will happen if my home needs improving?

  • Before work starts, we will hold a Tenants Choice Event for those having internal works. This will give you the opportunity to choose from a range of items such as kitchen units, wall and floor tiles.
  • If you can't get to a choice event, we will visit you in your home.
  • Three weeks before work starts, we will write to you to let you know the week in which the work will start in your home.
  • One week before work starts we will hold a health and safety meeting with you at your home, when you will have the opportunity to raise any concerns and we will agree what preparations you need to make.  We will also issue you with a schedule when works will be started.

What will happen during the work?

  • We will visit you regularly to ensure all is well.
  • We will tell you what works are planned for your home each week.
  • Work should take no longer than five weeks. We will try to complete work as agreed and let you know if there is a delay.
  • Ensure that your home and personal belongings are treated with respect and care and ensure that essential services (water, electricity and heating) are back on at the end of each day.

What will happen at the end of the work?

  • We will visit you to ensure that you are happy with the work, and you will also receive a telephone call from a company called Viewpoint who will ask you a series of customer satisfaction questions.  We would appreciate it if you could take the time to answer the questions as your feedback is very valuable to us in helping to improve our services.
  • We will assess your home and decide if any re-decoration is necessary.  At your choice event you should have been advised of the re-decoration options for the rooms which have been affected by the work.
  • Once the whole scheme in your area has been completed, we will hold an evaluation meeting where you will have the opportunity to give feedback on the Decent Homes process and make suggestions on how we can improve our service.  A random selection (taken from the customer satisfaction feedback collected by Viewpoint) of customers will be invited to attend the meeting to express their views and ideas to us.

May I refuse to have work carried out?

You can decline a part of your package, for example if you are having internal work done you can decline your kitchen and still have your bathroom done.

You cannot decline an individual item, for example if you are having your bathroom done you cannot refuse the toilet and still have the bath fitted

However, we must carry out any work required for safety reasons.
