Fishing fun in Thorne
Young people from Thorne in Doncaster have
been taking part in some fishy goings on…..
But it was all good fun, for the 16 young
people were taking part in a five week long summer holiday fishing
competition.
The fishing fun was organised by Thorne and
District Angling Association, who received a £200 donation from St
Leger Homes of Doncaster – the organisation that manages 21,000
council homes for Doncaster Council.
The money was from the company’s Positive
Activities fund – which aims to keep young people fit, healthy,
active and out of mischief– and was used to buy trophies
for the competition and paid for a buffet on the final day.
The angling association run the fishing club
annually through the summer school holidays at Delves Ponds in
Thorne.
Suzanne Crawley, an Estates Officer for St
Leger Homes in Thorne, said: “The kids’ fishing club is run to
channel the young people’s energy into a positive activity.
The young people who took part had a great time and it kept them
busy throughout the long school holiday.”
The angling club also received donations for
the summer fishing club from The Winning Post Hotel, Mr and Mrs
Sharpe, of Thorne, and local fisherman, Pete Kostyszyn, who donated
poles and fishing floats as prizes.
